Vote yes to programs or initiatives that will help academics, attendance, and teacher pay. I believe teacher pay is a major priority for our district.
I will be heavily invested in trade job opportunities as well, such as electricians, plumbers, and auto mechanics. College isn’t for everyone; you can make a great wage and not be drowning in debt when done with your training.
Listen to the community and be open to conversations in a respectful manner; we might disagree on certain things, but that’s okay.
Right-sizing the district and improving the aesthetics of our buildings and facilities is crucial. We’re so far behind other communities that we are at a disadvantage at almost every level, including technology, space, fine arts, and athletics.
Ask yourself this question: If you were a teacher, what would compel you to teach in our district? Our facilities are poor, our technology is poor, and teacher pay is poor. I value and respect our current teachers so much for showing up every day and grinding.
Would you move your family here from out of town to attend our schools?
All the negativity about the city and district is exhausting for many people. I think this administration deserves a chance to succeed, and it will take some time. Let’s not make them pay for the sins of past administrations. I’m not running to try to dig up dirt or start drama; we need to work together for the kids. I will be a check and balance and do what I’m supposed to do.
I am for a new high school; actually, I’m for two new high schools. I know this isn’t something that will happen overnight, but this needs to be the focus still. If we ever want to increase the population and bring businesses to town that require people to fill those positions, we have to improve our facilities. Many people I’ve talked to go off to college and never return. I hear people saying that what the district is doing to the community and kids by consolidating schools is a bad thing; I disagree. I think the worst thing we could do is keep everything the same with no path forward. We’ve been hurting our kids for 30 years by not updating our facilities. We as a community have to move forward.
I believe a school district is the most vital part of a city. You improve education, produce educated citizens, and your crime rates, drugs, etc., will all improve. The most powerful thing a person can have is being educated. Give companies a reason to hire you. Put out a ton of college graduates and skilled people, and force businesses to come here. We have so much potential in this city and a lot of really good people from all walks of life. Let’s make this better for our kids and their kids.
